As wildlife and nature photographer that lives in the big city, we are always looking for a place to go to capture the beauty of nature. A couple of years ago, Tracy and I took a weekend trip to Jefferson and Caddo Lake in Northeast, Texas.

We arrived Friday afternoon and spent the night in a “haunted hotel in Jefferson. We didn’t see any ghosts but the hotel was definitely spooky. Saturday morning we set off to see the beautiful Caddo Lake, which is on the border between Texas and Louisiana.

Half lake and half bayou, Caddo Lake offers something for everyone. Herons and Egrets are everywhere, hidden among the cypress groves draped in Spanish moss. We saw alligators, turtles, and hawks. The lake is absolutely beautiful in a lonely and haunting way as if transported to a different place and time.

Caddo Lake is one of the most photogenic places I have ever seen. With surreal landscapes and mystical cypress groves, it has something for everyone.
